We are currently seeking a talented and motivated journalist to uncover impactful community stories in Chemainus and Ladysmith.

If you have a passion for storytelling, a keen eye for detail and a commitment to serving community through journalism, this is an exciting opportunity to make a difference.

The successful applicant will have skills in:

  • Researching, reporting, and writing compelling news stories, features, and human-interest pieces that resonate.
  • Capturing high-quality photographs and videos to accompany written content, enhancing storytelling and engaging readers.
  • Conducting interviews with community members, local officials, and subject matter experts to gather information and providing balanced, accurate coverage of news events and issues.
  • Collaborating with editors, fellow journalists and other team members to brainstorm story ideas, coordinate coverage, and ensure timely publication of content.
  • Staying informed about local events, trends, and developments in Ladysmith and Chemainus, proactively seeking out story opportunities and pitching ideas to editors.
  • Adhering to ethical standards and journalistic principles, including accuracy, fairness, and objectivity, in all aspects of reporting and storytelling.

We are looking for someone who prides themselves to be a team player, able to multi-task, and work in a complex digital and print publishing environment. Writing will appear in the Chemainus Courier and Ladysmith Chronicle.

This position is supported by a Regional Editor and Group Publisher.
