We are looking for a passionate and experienced Journalist to take on the role of Bureau Chief in the fastest growing region in Canada.

In this position, the dedicated news leader will be expected to coordinate news coverage of Surrey, South Surrey, White Rock, North Delta, and Cloverdale with an emphasis on hyperlocal community news and in-depth meaningful storytelling across multiple platforms, including online and in weekly print products.

The successful applicant will be supported by two Publishers and the Editorial Director.

Qualifications include:

  • Excellent news judgement and experience in digital hyperlocal community news reporting.
  • Ability to analyze audience data and translate into storytelling and assigning decision-making.
  • Strong editing skills with a considerate and collaborative approach to providing feedback.
  • Nuanced understanding of today’s media landscape.
  • Adept critical thinking skills.
  • A passion for mentoring, as well as constant learning in a fast-paced environment.

Black Press Media places key importance on the ability to maintain ongoing website optimization and the development of timely news coverage, driving immediacy and audience engagement. Outstanding leadership skills and demonstrated abilities to direct and mentor a large team of Journalists and Editors are vital.

Applicants must hold formal journalism degrees or diplomas, with experience as an Editor in a digital environment. Broadcast training and work experience in the field are distinct assets.

Expected annual salary: $75,000.
